Brief Responses
In just 3-4 sentences, please provide a brief response to the questions below.
Please explain why you are interested in the Day1 Research Community to which you've applied.
One of the goals of the Day1 Research Community is to build communities of students and faculty that work together to solve a complex challenge. Explain how you have contributed to a group or team effort to achieve a goal over a period of time (for example in a play, sport, ensemble, or other settings).
Do you have some specific goals for your college career and after you graduate from Hope College? (It's OK if you don't.) If not, can you describe some vague goals about what you would like to gain from college? Whatever the case, how do you expect that this Day1 experience will help you to achieve them?
Explain what interests you in scientific research and why you would be interested in contributing to our real-world, scientific knowledge of Phages.
In the Phage program, as in all scientific research, you may face obstacles that impede steady progress and challenge your resolve. Explain, possibly using personal experience as an example, how you approach difficult projects or assignments and overcome approaches that at first or may not be successful.
Why do you want to learn about Geology?
Participants will bicycle roughly 8 miles in order to access study sites on Mackinac Island. Students will at times hike off-trail or on unimproved paths, including up and down steep slopes in sand, rock rubble, or wooded terrain. While swimming isn't required, some groups in the past have used swimming as a leisure time activity. Are there physical limitations that might require accommodations for your full participation?
